I’m not making resolutions this year. They don’t work; no one keeps them.

Mama’s wisdom for the new year?

Take the first step and do what scares you!

I don’t mean running in heavy traffic or walking in the sketchy parts of town late at night. Don’t be stupid. I don’t even advise running at all. I mean do the things you want to do that you’ve never tried because you were too afraid.

Chase your dream.

What goal do you want to reach that you could get to if you just took that first step? Do you want to feel better physically, but that first sit up or that first walk outside is making you anxious? Rip off the bandaid and do it. Do you want to go back to school? Do you want to read more? Do you want to change your financial situation? Do you want to learn another language?

What do you want to do?

Everything starts with one small step. I’m doing it. I’ve been afraid of submitting my writing. I’m doing it.

If you need help, ask for it. Maybe that is the thing you are afraid of: asking for help. DO IT! I had to ask for help with my submissions. I didn’t know what I was doing so I put something together and asked a friend to look at it first. Then, I did it!

If you have goals, dreams, things you want, my friend GO GET THEM. They will not come to you. You have to work for them.

Let this be your year.

Take the first step and do what scares you!
