Hello!  Welcome to my very first blog post. I live a crazy fast life in a very small town.  It is the kind of small town where everyone knows everyone else and if you aren’t already related to someone it’s a good bet you will be by marriage eventually. That sounds a little more redneck than I intend, but its pretty close!  There is one high school and half of the teachers were my teachers and the other half graduated from the same class as me.  Some kids grow up and move away, but most seem to wander back this way eventually. I love my small town life and I’d like to share it.  I’m not a professional writer or a comedian, although sometimes I’m funny by accident.  I always seem to have a story running in my head so I thought I’d take a stab at putting them out there.   You can expect this blog to be fairly random.  I write about things I see, people who make me happy, events that make me smile or stop and think.  If what I have to say helps you, makes you think, or makes you laugh then I’ll feel like I’ve done something valuable here.  Please feel free to leave comments.  I’ll reply to as many as I can. I’m sure I’ll be able to reply to everyone  because my following is probably going to consist of my mom and her friends. It should be a pretty fun conversation!

A little about me.  I am a wife and a mother.  I have a daycare in my home which is exhausting, fulfilling and hilarious all at the same time.  I have four awesome, amazing kids and one sweet boy in Heaven whom I cannot wait to hold someday.  I make greeting cards for fun and a little side money (I’ll link my Stampin’ Up! page later) and I love, love love to hang out with my kids.  I have two teenagers who don’t necessarily want to hang out with me, but I make them anyway.  They might thank me for it someday.  If they don’t I’ll pay for their therapy.  My husband is truly the love of my life.  He is smart, funny and hardworking.  He absolutely HATES when I write about him.  My kids are 5, 9, 14, and 17.  They are all crazy busy and I spend a lot of time juggling.  I try to give each of them equal time and I fail a lot, but they are pretty forgiving towards me.  Between them all we go to fastpitch, the horse barn, wrestling, baseball, football, soccer, the BMX bike parks, cheer, summer camps, etc., etc.  Some days it feels like we do all of those things on the same night.  If you have kids, you know how it works.  I wish there was a way to put all of those things together and make all of my kids be on the same team.  “Yes, my children are all accomplished first base running backs.  My son is exceptional in the English Equitation Division and my daughter can score a grand slam touchdown with a Olympic roll-double leg-fakie-split jump.”  It would be awesome to see them all at the same time doing things they love and still get home for dinner on time.  Can you imagine a world where dinner time exists?

I’ve decided to blog because I want to be able to connect with others.  I would love to be able to help people in big and small ways.  I also have an over active need for positive reinforcement.  (My friends say I’m an attention freak.  I’d use another word, but I don’t like to type out bad words.  I’m not a prude, but I just can’t do it.)  Did you ever take that survey at work or school that asks you what motivates you?  They give you options like money/wages, titles, the satisfaction of a job well done, recognition, etc.  I’ve always checked off the noble” job well done” option, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve finally admitted that I’m motivated by recognition.  I want people to tell me I’m smart and funny.  So, tell me.  No, really.  Right now.  Click on comments and tell me I’m smart and funny.  I’ll wait.

I hope you like what you read here and I encourage you to share with your friends if you like it.  I’ve never had a blog before so I am adding to this and developing it as I go.  I’ve added in some posts that I wrote for my Facebook page to make it look like I know what I’m doing (I don’t).  Feel free to check it out.  Be kind.  I cry easily.

Talk to you soon!

~Lauri

PS.  Does anyone know why this set up page always says, “Howdy, Lauri” in the upper corner?  Is there a setting for that?  The cowboy setting?  If there are choices I want a pirate setting.  “Aaargh, Matey!”
